In the course of the World Economic Forum in Davos, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with ICRC President Peter Maurer.
The Head of State highly evaluated the ICRC’s initiative to establish a Coordination mechanism to find persons who have gone missing as a result of the conflict in Donbas, as well as the assistance provided by the ICRC mission in Ukraine to IDPs from the occupied Crimea, Sevastopol and certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Petro Poroshenko urged Peter Maurer to intensify ICRC’s efforts for the liberation of all Ukrainian hostages detained both in the occupied territories and Russia, including Oleg Sentsov and Nadiya Savchenko.
The President also noted the importance of the ICRC’s position in the issue of human rights violation in Crimea.
Peter Maurer emphasized that the ICRC would remain a reliable partner in overcoming Ukraine’s challenges. He informed on the intention to attract over USD 64 million for the humanitarian activity of the ICRC mission in 2016 in addition to nearly USD 100 million spent on aid projects in Ukraine in 2014-2015.
