With the participation and support of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Swiss Confederation, a celebration of Vyshyvanka Day took place in Basel — a holiday that unites Ukrainians around their traditions, culture, and shared values.

The event began with the performance of the National Anthem of Ukraine.

In his welcoming remarks, a representative of the Embassy of Ukraine stressed the importance of preserving and promoting Ukrainian traditions around the world, highlighted the role of the Ukrainian community in maintaining strong ties with the homeland, and noted that such events clearly demonstrate the unity of Ukrainians even far from home.

Participants also observed a minute of silence in memory of all military personnel and civilians who lost their lives as a result of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.

Throughout the day, the festival became a true centre of Ukrainian life, filled with a warm and family-friendly atmosphere. Guests enjoyed a concert programme featuring artistic groups from different parts of Switzerland, theatrical performances, musicians and dance ensembles, exhibitions of Ukrainian art and vyshyvankas, workshops, sports activities, children’s entertainment, and charitable initiatives.

Special thanks go to the Basel branch of the Ukrainian Society in Switzerland for the excellent organisation of the event, dedication, and for creating a space that united Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine from different regions of Switzerland.

We also express our gratitude to all partners, volunteers, artists, the music group “Vyazanka”, craftsmen, fair participants, UkrLawka, artistic groups, performers, host Ivanna Onofriichuk, and everyone whose work and talent made this celebration truly special.

Particular thanks to Restaurant “Alexander” and Ukrainian radio “Borshch FM” for serving festival guests 100 litres of authentic Ukrainian borshch, which became a symbol of Ukrainian hospitality, unity, and warmth.

We thank everyone who joined this celebration. Thanks to such events, we preserve Ukrainian traditions, strengthen our community, and demonstrate the resilience of the Ukrainian spirit far from our homeland.
