Swiss Investment in Ukraine in 2019
- The Swiss Confederation is among the five leading investing countries in the Ukraine’s economy. As of January 1, 2020, Swiss investments amounted to USD 1.715 billion, which is 4.8% of the total FDI stock in Ukraine. The amount includes both investments of actual Swiss companies operating in Ukraine and investments of some Ukrainian companies headquartered in Switzerland (e.g. ore mining company Ferrexpo).
- In 2019, Swiss investments grew by USD 163 million, or 10.5%.
- The biggest sectors of Swiss investment are: industry and financial and insurance activities.

In June 2020, the Company signed agreement for the concession of the Kherson Sea Commercial Port – the first marine concession in the history of Ukraine's independence. Examples of large investment projects implemented by other foreign companies in Ukraine in 2019
- The largest investment projects implemented or at final stage of implementation by foreign companies in Ukraine in 2019 were in the following sectors:
Manufacturing
- Kronospan (Austria) - $141 million – manufacturer of wood-based panels is implementing an investment project for the construction of a new Oriented Strand Board (OSB) line, as well as the construction of a line for sawing and packaging wood in Novovolynsk (Volyn region).
- Biopharma / Horizon Capital (Ukraine / USA) - $75 million - in September 2019, a plasma fractionation plant was opened in Bila Tserkva (Kyiv Oblast).
- STADA (Germany) – on December 2, 2019 STADA announced that it is acquiring the pharmaceutical business of Biopharma, one of the key pharmaceutical producers in Ukraine. Biopharma's shareholders will retain the company's plasma business. The financial terms of the agreement are not disclosed, however, according to experts, this agreement is one of the largest financial investments in the Ukrainian pharmaceutical sector to date and one of the biggest investments in Ukraine recently.
- Jabil (USA) - $16 million – in March 2019 an electronics manufacturer opened a new production site in the village of Rozivka near Uzhgorod, effectively doubling the site’s production capacity. With over 3,000 highly skilled, English speaking employees, Jabil Uzhgorod is one of the largest employers in the Zakarpattia region.
- ArcelorMittal (India/Luxembourg) – $415 million – investment in production development in 2019.
Agribusiness (logistics, processing)
- Cargill (USA) - $150 million – finished construction of a grain terminal in Yuzhny Port, Odesa region with projected capacity of 5 million tons of grain per year.
- Delta Wilmar (Singapore) - acquired food producer Chumak from Dragon Capital.
Energy
- Eurocape (USA/Luxembourg) – $230 million – first stage of a wind power plant in Zaporizhzhia region with the capacity of 98 MW.
IT / Telecommunications
- Bakcell (Azerbaijan) - $734 million - purchased one of the biggest mobile operators in Ukraine Vodafone Ukraine.
- GitLab (Ukraine) - $268 million - in September 2019 the company raised $268 million in investments from Goldman Sachs, Iconiq Capital, Y Combinator and Continuity Fund, company valued at $ 2.75 billion.
- Grammarly (Ukraine) - $90 million - in October 2019 the company raised $90 million in investments from General Catalyst and other investors. The company is valued over $1 billion.
- AI Factory (Ukraine) - $166 million - Snap has bought an AI Factory startup with offices in Ukraine.
