06 May 2026 18:00

On May 6, Ukrainian-Swiss political consultations took place in Kyiv under the chairmanship of Yevhen Perebyinis, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and Pierre-Yves Fux, Head of the Eurasia Division at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.

The meeting was also attended by Jacques Gerber, Delegate of the Swiss Federal Council for Ukraine, and Felix Baumann, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to Ukraine.

During the consultations, Yevhen Perebyinis expressed gratitude to Switzerland for its consistent support for Ukraine, including its active participation in peace initiatives and readiness to provide a platform for negotiations. He informed the Swiss side about the current situation on the battlefield and stressed the need to further strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities. The Ukrainian diplomat also highlighted Switzerland’s significant contribution to humanitarian demining and discussed prospects for further cooperation in this area.

For his part, Pierre-Yves Fux reaffirmed Switzerland’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its readiness to continue participating actively in humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives in support of Ukraine.

The parties noted the high level of political dialogue between Ukraine and Switzerland and paid particular attention to coordination within international organizations. In particular, they emphasized the importance of Switzerland’s chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in 2026, including in the context of documenting crimes committed by Russia and strengthening international efforts to achieve peace.

The Ukrainian side stressed the need for continued international pressure on the aggressor state, including through maintaining and effectively implementing sanctions. In this context, the parties discussed issues related to holding Russia accountable, including the establishment of a Special Tribunal, the functioning of the Register of Damage, and the creation of an international compensation mechanism.

Special attention was also given to Ukraine’s reconstruction, including Switzerland’s participation in relevant programs and projects, opportunities to expand the involvement of the Swiss private sector, and continued support for Ukraine’s energy resilience ahead of the next winter season.
