On 22 February 2026, a solidarity event marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine took place in the historic church Grossmünster in Zurich.
Among the participants were Zurich City Councillor Raphael Golta, Grossmünster pastor Martin Rüsch, representatives of church communities and humanitarian organizations, members of the Ukrainian community, and the Chamber Orchestra from Bakhmut — a city that has become a symbol of tragedy as well as resilience.
The musicians, forced to leave their destroyed home, continue to bring Ukrainian culture to the world, proving that culture is stronger than war.
In his speech, a representative of the Embassy of Ukraine emphasized the special symbolism of the venue:
“Grossmünster is a place where a spiritual tradition of freedom and responsibility began. Its history reminds us that freedom is never given — it must be defended again and again. Today, this is exactly what Ukraine is doing.”
Zurich became yet another Swiss city that demonstrated its solidarity with the Ukrainian people — not only in words, but through presence, prayer, and shared remembrance.
We express our sincere gratitude to our Swiss partners, the Cultural Center Prostir Cultural Center led by Urban Frei, church communities, organizers, and everyone who stands with Ukraine in these difficult times.
