On 1 June 2026, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Swiss Confederation, Iryna Venediktova, paid an official visit to the Canton of Solothurn.
At the Town Hall of Solothurn, the Ambassador met with the President of the Cantonal Government and Head of the Department of Internal Affairs, Susanne Schaffner, as well as the State Chancellor, Yves Derendinger.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of cooperation between Ukraine and Switzerland at the regional level, the support provided to Ukraine by the Canton of Solothurn, and prospects for further development of interregional contacts and partnership initiatives.
The Ambassador briefed her counterparts on the security and humanitarian situation in Ukraine, emphasizing the need for continued international support for the Ukrainian people and the importance of involving Swiss partners in Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction projects.
As part of the visit, representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine also visited the refugee accommodation centre Fridau in Egerkingen, where they familiarized themselves with the living conditions of individuals granted temporary protection in Switzerland and discussed with the centre’s management issues related to supporting Ukrainian citizens.
The Ambassador expressed her sincere gratitude to the Canton of Solothurn for its solidarity with Ukraine, its support for Ukrainian citizens residing in Switzerland under temporary protection status “S”, and its humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
The visit took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere and reaffirmed the shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Ukraine and the Swiss Confederation.
