On March 29, the closing ceremony of the 5th World Winter Games among military personnel, organized by the International Council for Military Sports (CISM), took place in Lucerne. For 7 days, more than 1500 athletes from 43 countries of the world competed in the spirit of the slogan "Friendship through Sport", strengthening international solidarity, trust and mutual understanding between the armies of the world.

For Ukraine, these Games became a truly historic event: for the first time, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine won a gold medal in the team competition in rock climbing in the "speed" discipline, as well as silver and bronze medals in the individual competition.

These victories gave us a special moment: for the first time in the history of the CISM World Winter Games on Swiss soil, in the presence of military delegations from all over the world, the National Anthem of Ukraine sounded. Thanks to the courage, professionalism and strength of spirit of our military athletes, the voice of Ukraine sounded with dignity, loud and confident.

The Embassy of Ukraine had the honor of being present at the closing ceremony and personally congratulating the Ukrainian team.

It was especially pleasant to see the sincere and warm attitude towards our servicemen from representatives of other countries. Greetings like “Glory to Ukraine!” that were addressed to them became a touching manifestation of support and international solidarity.

The Embassy is sincerely grateful to Switzerland for the impeccable organization of the competitions, hospitality, professionalism and attention to every detail.

We express special gratitude to the students and teachers of the Ukrainian Saturday School “Mriya” in Zurich. On their own initiative, they prepared touching drawings and a small congratulatory message for the Ukrainian team.

These Games have proven once again: Ukraine is strong, worthy and respected.
