During his working visit to the Swiss Confederation to participate in the World Economic Forum in Davos, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held his first meeting with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin.
The President of Ukraine congratulated Guy Parmelin on his election and expressed gratitude to Switzerland for its consistent and unwavering support of Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian Federation’s full-scale aggression.
During the meeting, the Presidents discussed diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a just and sustainable peace, as well as the importance of further strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia. Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine highly values Switzerland’s sanctions policy and counts on its continued principled position.
The President of Ukraine briefed his Swiss counterpart on the current security situation in Ukraine, in particular on the ongoing Russian attacks on energy infrastructure during the winter period, as well as the round-the-clock work of Ukrainian energy workers and repair teams to restore electricity, heating and water supply in cities and communities.
Special attention was paid to supporting Ukraine’s energy sector and strengthening air defence. The possibility of an additional Swiss contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund was discussed.
