The Embassy of Ukraine in the Swiss Confederation consistently opposes any merging, comparison, or joint presentation of Ukrainian culture with the culture of the aggressor state.
The Russian Federation has been waging an armed aggression against Ukraine for twelve years, and over the past four years, a full-scale war against our country, carried out with particular brutality against civilians and critical infrastructure. In this context, any attempts to equate Ukrainian and Russian culture or to present them as a “shared space for dialogue” are unacceptable and deeply painful for Ukrainian society.
Today, Ukrainian culture is a culture of resistance, dignity, and the struggle for freedom. It cannot be equated or compared with the culture of a state that wages an aggressive war, destroys Ukrainian cities and villages, kills civilians, and systematically devastates Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
Such cultural formats blur the clear line between aggressor and victim and are perceived as a painful signal to the Ukrainian community — both in Ukraine and here in Switzerland.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Switzerland calls on cultural, educational, and civic institutions to take into account the real context of the ongoing Russian aggression and to act responsibly, with respect for the victims of the war, the principles of justice, and human dignity.
