In Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation, Maya Riniker.
The Head of State noted that this visit reflects her personal support and solidarity with Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Switzerland’s support in humanitarian demining and financial assistance, particularly for the decision to allocate 5 billion Swiss francs for Ukraine’s reconstruction over the coming years.
The President also commended the organization of the Peace Summit held last year in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, which, despite not bringing peace to Ukraine, became an important step in the peace process.
“Our position remains unchanged: we condemn Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and we remain committed to a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, to international law and the UN Charter,” emphasized Maya Riniker.
The discussion also addressed the need to intensify sanctions pressure on Russia, with particular focus on the supply of critical components and technologies used for the production of drones and missiles. It is essential to halt any such deliveries and ensure that defense manufacturers monitor where their products end up.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Maya Riniker also focused on the return of Ukrainian children who were abducted or unlawfully deported by Russia. The President stressed that this issue remains a top priority for Ukraine and highlighted the importance of Switzerland joining the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children and supporting the Bring Kids Back UA initiative, through which approximately 1,500 children have already been returned. Switzerland is currently considering this step, with relevant procedures underway in its parliament.
They also discussed the operations of Swiss companies in Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked them for not only preserving jobs but also increasing employment. He emphasized that it is important for Ukraine that Swiss businesses continue their presence and operations in the country.
