For the sustainable recovery and development of Ukraine, the interests of international investors and donors must be reliably protected. This issue was the focus of a meeting with the executive director of the Basel Institute for Governance, Gretta Fenner.
The Institute has been cooperating with Ukrainian ministries and agencies for a long time on improving anti-corruption programs and creating transparent reporting mechanisms. Recently, the Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine (Ministry of Reconstruction) and the Basel Institute of Governance concluded a Memorandum of Cooperation on minimizing corruption risks during the use of state and donor funds allocated for the reconstruction of critical infrastructure destroyed by the aggressor.
The parties also discussed sanctions, bringing the aggressor to justice and working out a mechanism for compensation for damages caused to Ukraine. In particular, about the involvement of assets of persons involved in Russian aggression arrested in various countries of the world for the reconstruction of our state.
Through the International Asset Recovery Center (funded by Switzerland), the Institute has been supporting Ukraine since 2014 on the way to return the stolen assets of the country's former leadership, obtained through criminal means.
