On 20 March 2026, a panel discussion was held in Basel with the participation of Ukrainian human rights defender and serviceman Maksym Butkevych, organized by several civil society organizations and the University of Basel.
The event focused on humanitarian and societal challenges caused by Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine.
During the discussion, participants addressed the impact of the war on society, the preservation of humanity in a war for survival, Russia’s propaganda methods used to justify violence, and the importance of freedom in today’s realities.
Particular attention was paid to compliance with international humanitarian law, including the conditions of detention of prisoners of war and the need to strengthen international efforts for their release.
The Embassy of Ukraine expresses its gratitude to the organizers, in particular the University of Basel, for hosting the discussion and for drawing public attention to important humanitarian and legal aspects of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
