In cooperation with the Ukrainian Society in Switzerland, the Ukrainian community and with the participation of representatives of parliament and the foreign diplomatic corps, a memorial event was held to honour the memory of millions of Holodomor victims. This terrible act of genocide against the Ukrainian people was committed by the Soviet totalitarian regime in 1932-1933. Today, with sadness in our hearts, we honour the memory of Ukrainians who were innocently killed by an artificially organized famine.
Ambassador Iryna Venediktova, Honorary Consul of Ukraine Andrey Luzhnytskyi and Member of the Swiss Federal Assembly Nicolas Walder delivered speeches at the event. The speakers emphasized that the Ukrainian people overcame the horrors of the Holodomor, demonstrating their strong spirit and resilience, and despite everything, are building a free and democratic Ukraine.
Unfortunately, we are witnesses to the fact that history is repeating itself. The terrorist state is again committing genocide against the Ukrainian people, trying to destroy our state, independence and identity.
We are grateful to Switzerland for joining the countries that recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
