As part of Basel Art Week, representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine in Switzerland visited major international art events showcasing Ukrainian artists and galleries.
At Art Basel Unlimited, they visited the presentation of Ukrainian artist Nikita Kadan, exhibited by Voloshyn Gallery. His sound installation Tryvoha (The Sirens and the Mast) immerses visitors in the experience of an air-raid alarm, a reality familiar to millions of Ukrainians. Through the voice of an opera singer, the artist reinterprets one of the most recognizable sounds of war, creating a space for reflection on anxiety, vulnerability, and resilience.
The delegation also visited Liste Art Fair, where Voloshyn Gallery presents the solo project I Tripped Over a Cloud While Looking at the Sky by Ukrainian artist Yuriy Bolsa. The series explores the complex balance between a personal search for beauty and civic responsibility during wartime. Through personal narratives and reflections on loneliness, alienation, and moral choice, the artist examines the psychological landscape of contemporary Ukraine.
The visit concluded at the opening of Volta Art Fair, where the Kharkiv-based Rukh Art Hub presented works by Ukrainian artists Anastasia Podervianska, Nina Murashkina, Tata Kolesnik, and Polina Kuznetsova, as well as Ukrainian artist Andrii Kozakov, who is currently based in the United States. His work engages with abstract architectural imagery, combining real and imagined structures to create multilayered visual spaces for reflecting on contemporary realities.
These projects once again demonstrate the strength, diversity, and international relevance of contemporary Ukrainian art.
The exhibitions and art fairs will remain open until the end of the week.
We encourage everyone to support Ukrainian artists by visiting Art Basel, Liste Art Fair, and Volta Art Fair, and to discover contemporary Ukrainian art, which today resonates confidently within the global cultural landscape.
