As part of the Fundamentals of International Diplomacy course at the University of Fribourg and in commemoration of the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, Mr. Samvel Arustamyan, Counsellor of the Embassy of Ukraine in Switzerland, took part in a joint discussion with H.E. Patrick Wittmann, Ambassador of Canada to Switzerland, H.E. Christian Schönberger, former Ambassador of Switzerland to Ukraine, and Mr. Andrey Lushnytsky, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Switzerland.

Together with students of an international exchange programme, the speakers addressed the current challenges to international security, particularly in the context of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. Special attention was paid to the role of diplomacy in countering aggression, as well as the engagement of Switzerland and Canada in global efforts to establish a just peace.

The panellists also shared their personal experiences in diplomatic service, since many students consider this path as a potential professional future.

A vivid discussion, critical questions, and sincere interest from the audience once again confirmed: youth are not indifferent to Ukraine’s fate and value diplomacy as a tool for peace and justice.
