Chernihiv has become the first Ukrainian city to join the international Pioneering Places initiative of the Davos Baukultur Alliance — a global platform of the World Economic Forum dedicated to sustainable urban development and reconstruction.

The official announcement of Chernihiv’s participation in the programme took place in Bern during a Davos Baukultur Alliance event attended by representatives of international organisations, governments, experts, and municipal authorities.

The Pioneering Places programme brings together cities, governments, architects, urban planners, businesses, and international partners to develop practical solutions in the areas of infrastructure, housing, environmental sustainability, cultural heritage, and urban economy.

The initiative already includes Nairobi, San Francisco, Utrecht, Montreal, and Kuala Lumpur. Chernihiv has now joined this international platform.

Participation in the programme provides the city with access to:

• international expertise and partnerships;

• global urban development forums in Davos;

• cooperation with leading international companies;

• international visibility for Ukraine’s reconstruction experience;

• development of concrete reconstruction projects and opportunities to secure funding for their implementation.

The application process for Ukrainian cities to participate in the programme was initiated by the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine together with the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

Chernihiv’s accession to Pioneering Places marks an important step in integrating Ukraine into the global dialogue on reconstruction and the development of the cities of the future.

Ukraine continues to actively cooperate with international partners to implement modern approaches to the recovery and rebuilding of Ukrainian cities and communities.
