On 12 October, Ambassador of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova took part in two panel discussions at the Geneva Peace Forum 2026, which is being held in Geneva from 12 to 15 October under the theme “Choose Peace”.
The Forum brought together representatives of governments, international organisations, the diplomatic corps and civil society to discuss international security, the peaceful settlement of conflicts and respect for international law. During the Forum, Alexandre Fasel, State Secretary of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, reaffirmed Switzerland’s support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and for achieving a just and lasting peace in accordance with international law.
During the discussion entitled “The Human Cost of Conflict: Giving Visibility and Paving the Way for Accountability”, organised by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), the Ambassador stressed the importance of documenting international crimes, preserving evidence and ensuring that those responsible for crimes committed as a result of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine are held accountable.
At the “Civilian Voices” roundtable, Iryna Venediktova drew attention to the plight of Ukrainian civilians unlawfully detained by Russia and highlighted the need to strengthen international efforts to secure their release and return home.
A just and lasting peace is impossible without respect for international law, the protection of victims and accountability for crimes committed.
