The Ambassador Iryna Venediktova held a meeting with State Secretary of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Livia Leu. The focus was on support for the victims of another act of terror by the Russian Federation - the detonation of the Kakhovka HPP and the need for inevitable punishment for this crime. The help of Switzerland in this difficult time is very valuable for Ukraine.
Condemning the actions of the aggressor at the international level is very important for us. Switzerland's non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council provides additional opportunities for this.
State Secretary Livia Leu informed about the Confederation's efforts in providing first aid to the affected residents of the territories adjacent to the Kakhovka region. The Swiss side, in cooperation with water utilities and international organizations, is working on the ground to provide drinking water to about 60,000 Ukrainians. The support will continue.
Switzerland has also stepped up efforts in the field of humanitarian demining. The Ambassador thanked for the intention to increase the dynamics of cooperation and increase the financing of project activities, outlined by the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Ignazio Cassis, at the International Conference on Reconstruction of Ukraine in London.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his address to the Federal Assembly, noted that Ukraine would be glad to see Switzerland among the countries participating in the implementation of the Peace Formula. The Ambassador thanked for taking into account our signals regarding the only comprehensive plan for achieving peace in Ukraine.
During the conversation, the focus was on the importance of Switzerland's recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.
