On 21 September, Swiss ultrarunner Frédéric Splendor completed the Beyond Borders (Courir Pour Unir) charity run in Lviv, covering more than 4,200 kilometres across 13 European countries in support of Ukraine 🏃.

Frédéric set off from Monaco on 24 July. The initiative aimed to raise funds for humanitarian assistance to Ukrainians and to draw international attention to the consequences of Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine.

The Embassy of Ukraine supported the initiative and remained in contact with Frédéric throughout the run. In July, while he was completing the Swiss section of the route, representatives of the Embassy had the opportunity to meet the athlete and express their support for his initiative.

It was symbolic that the journey ended on 21 September, the International Day of Peace. At 07:00, Frédéric was welcomed in Briukhovychi by Ukrainian runners and veterans from the Lviv region, who joined him for the final 12 kilometres to Lviv.

In Lviv, the athlete was welcomed by Maksym Kozytskyi, Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration. The participants paid tribute to the fallen defenders of Ukraine and laid flowers at their graves.

The funds raised through the initiative are planned to support housing reconstruction projects and provide medical assistance to Ukrainians affected by the war. The fundraising campaign will continue after the completion of the run.

The more than 4,200 kilometres of this journey were not only an outstanding sporting achievement, but also a powerful expression of tangible support for Ukraine and a reminder that solidarity knows no borders.
