On December 4, the Embassy of Ukraine in Switzerland, together with the Embassy of Sweden in Switzerland, organized a screening of the film Songs of Slow Burning Earth by director Olha Zhurba. In her work, the director subtly and profoundly explores how war transforms the everyday lives of Ukrainians. The sounds of rockets and artillery, constant tension, fear, and hatred—all of this gradually and painfully becomes part of daily life. The film conveys not only an atmosphere of anxiety but also the strength of human resilience that emerges under prolonged trials.
The film has already been awarded “Best Documentary” at the Ukrainian Film Festival in Poland and has also received recognition from Docudays UA. This year, it has been nominated for the IDA Documentary Awards and the European Film Awards.
In her speech, the Ambassador of Ukraine in Switzerland, Iryna Venediktova, thanked the Swedish Ambassador Carl Magnus Nesser for fruitful cooperation, as well as the director of Cinématte, Bernhard Schürch, for their hospitality and professional support.
After the screening, the film left the audience with deep empathy, a sense of incomprehension about why people are forced to suffer, and a desire to help and take action. Special thanks go to all attendees who traded pre-holiday lightness for solidarity with those who are today fighting for freedom and life in Ukraine. It is precisely culture and art that help us preserve truth and humanity even in the most difficult times.
