On 24 August, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Mishchenko held a meeting in Kyiv with a Swiss delegation headed by Gabriel Lüchinger, Head of the International Security Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, who arrived in Ukraine on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.

The sides discussed current issues in Ukrainian-Swiss relations, the deepening of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as Switzerland’s role as the OSCE Chair-in-Office in 2026. Oleksandr Mishchenko thanked the Swiss partners for their consistent political solidarity, practical support for Ukraine, and readiness to provide a platform for future peace negotiations.

The Ukrainian side briefed the Swiss delegation on the intensification of Russian missile attacks against Ukrainian cities and stressed the need for continued international pressure on the aggressor state. Particular attention was paid to Russia’s illegal deportation and forced transfer of Ukrainian children and to coordinating efforts to facilitate their return.

Following the meeting, the sides agreed to maintain close political coordination and regular dialogue. Gabriel Lüchinger reaffirmed Switzerland’s readiness to continue supporting Ukraine and to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
