On 31 October, the International Youth Economic Forum 2026 took place in Geneva, marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Ukrainian economist, public figure and philanthropist Bohdan Hawrylyshyn.
A representative of the Embassy of Ukraine in Switzerland also attended the Forum and delivered welcoming remarks to the young participants during the opening ceremony.
In his address, the Ukrainian diplomat highlighted Bohdan Hawrylyshyn’s remarkable life journey – from a small Ukrainian village to international recognition in the world of economics. Despite his success, he never forgot Ukraine and devoted a significant part of his life to supporting and empowering the younger generation.
“The future of a country depends not only on its economy, natural resources or technology. Above all, it depends on people – on their knowledge, values, courage and willingness to take responsibility,” the Embassy representative emphasised.
Particular attention was given to Ukrainian schoolchildren and students who, despite Russia’s full-scale aggression, continue to study, develop their skills and proudly represent Ukraine on the international stage.
The Forum programme brought together international meetings, an introduction to CERN's activities, discussions on human capital development and economic education, as well as the 3rd International Financial Literacy Tournament, FinGameGlobal, where young participants had the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and financial decision-making skills.
We extend our sincere gratitude to IYEF President Olha Zyrianova, the family of Bohdan Hawrylyshyn, the organisers, the University of Geneva, partners, teachers and mentors for creating a platform for international youth dialogue, knowledge exchange and new opportunities.
