The Ambassador of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova took part in the political conference "Democracy or Autocracy – The Global Battle for Freedom".
The International Day of Democracy is celebrated on September 15 to draw attention to how valuable equality, freedom of thought and respect for human rights are for every individual.
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the Russian Federation has committed 136 000 crimes against the Ukrainian people. During this time, approximately 11 000 civilians were killed, 504 of whom were children. Another 20 000 children were kidnapped and taken to Russia.
The Ambassador emphasized that the world community should accumulate all efforts to stop the crime of aggression and bring the Russian Federation to justice by creating a special international tribunal. All civilized, democratic states that respect international law must join this process, which will become a prerequisite for the security of the European region as a whole.
Acts of genocide against Ukrainians, such as the Holodomor of 1932-1933, terrible pages of recent European history, and the crime of aggression must remain in the past.
