The Ambassador Iryna Venediktova and the newly appointed State Secretary of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Aleksandre Fasel, discussed the further deepening of fruitful relations between Ukraine and the Swiss Confederation, assessed the potential for interaction between the parties along the lines of international organizations, in particular in the context of consolidating the position of the international community to stop Russian aggression against Ukraine and restore respect for norms of international law.
The open exchange of views covered important issues of the development of the security situation in our country and in the region, efforts to increase Ukraine's capabilities in protecting, first of all, objects of critical infrastructure and vital activities, preservation of its economic potential, active steps to implement priority reconstruction projects. In this context, the importance of continuing systematic work by Switzerland both in the allocation of humanitarian aid and the implementation of large-scale projects in the field of humanitarian demining, the construction of protective structures in educational and health care institutions, and the provision of state guarantees for Swiss businesses ready to participate in investment projects was noted in our country.
State Secretary Fasel reported on the unchanging position of Switzerland regarding Russian aggression, support for the need to bring to justice those guilty of the crime of aggression, and priority directions for technical and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
In light of the 1990s anniversary of the Holodomor tragedy of 1932-1933, the focus was also on the subject of Switzerland joining the circle of democratic countries that recognized this crime of the totalitarian regime as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
The Ambassador thanked the State Secretary for the unchanging and clear course of support for Ukraine.
