The Ambassador Iryna Venediktova held a meeting with the team of the initiative Ukrainian Research in Switzerland (URIS) at the University of Basel.

With the aim of spreading knowledge about Ukraine on the basis of the Department of History of the University of Basel in 2014, Professor of East European History Benjamin Sсhenk launched the "Ukrainian Research in Switzerland". The basis of research and study is the Ukrainian language, literature, culture, history and politics.

Today, the URIS team also includes Ukrainian professors and assistant professors who actively encourage students to study Ukrainian identity.

The initiative is supported by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SBFI) and is a long-term program to support students and scientists in building an international network of university scientific research on Ukraine.

Over the years of its existence, URIS has opened a Ukrainian language class, introduced lectures on the history of Ukraine, organized visits to Ukraine and holds various events on Ukrainian topics.

We are sure that the initiative of the University of Basel to learn and spread Ukrainian will become an example for other Swiss universities.
